The FreeBSD Corporate Networker's Guide

Dynamic DNS

Several reviewers mentioned that I glossed over Dynamic DNS. I do spend a lot of time in the Networker's Guide talking about the problem of synchronizing a dynamic IP-addressing scheme with a static DNS server zone file. However, the new Dynamic DNS standard obsoletes this problem.

Simply put, Dynamic DNS isn't applicable to older Windows clients like Windows 95. I still to this day see a huge amount of installed Win95 and Windows NT 4, and I don't consider Dynamic DNS as anything more than a laboratory curiosity until at least 2005, if then.
