Low-level disk formatting bad

One reviewer said to not waste time discussing SCSI or IDE disk formatting.

In general, SCSI and IDE disks more than 4GB in size are modern enough not to need formatting, and low-level formatting adds a lot of time to the process. But I will always be as conservative and cautious as possible before commencing construction on a server. Why not take the extra time to be sure? If your the 1-in-500th person that crashes a brand-new disk with a manufacturing flaw in it because of running a low-level stress test (like a format) on it, you will see the value of taking the extra time to do this.
