The FreeBSD Corporate Networker's Guide

Low-level disk formatting bad

A reviewer said "just do "passwd root" after /usr is mounted read-write if the /usr partition isn't trashed.

I deliberately made the root password recovery procedure more involved because doing it this way teaches more about how to recover the system if something goes badly wrong. Also, the method I use has the least amount of dependencies on other programs on the disk system if something goes badly wrong.
