The FreeBSD Corporate Networker's Guide

Return Receipt Requested (RRQ) discussion

Several reviewers wern't completely satisfied with how the RRQ section was covered and suggested either deleting it or tremendously reducing it. One reviewer suggested moving the paragraph on privacy out of this section and also wanted Mailer Delivery Notification (MDN) clarified from Delivery Status Notification (DSN).

I decided to cover RRQ in this way because, in my experience, RRQ is one of the first things that un-knowledgeable people ask about when the topic of e-mail systems comes up. RRQ is a political and technical nightmare to implement. Everyone hates receiving them, and only a few users really get off on sending them--although the people most wanting to send RRQ usually hate receiving them the most. RRQ is used as a buzzword by ignorant marketing people selling commercial mailserver systems, and I'm frankly sick of hearing it brought up. This section had to be this way to effectively put RRQ in the trashcan.
