I am currently collecting reader ideas and feedback that could be used in a second edition, another book, or subsequent FreeBSD articles. However, as of September 2004, no future editions have been planned or contracted for. Addison Wesley did issue a second printing in February 2002 which contains the corrections that are documented on this Web site as well as a newer version of FreeBSD on the included CD-ROM.

It is not unusual to take several years of book sales to recoup the initial publishing investment, and many books do not have second editions. For example, neither The Design and Implementation of the 4.3BSD UNIX Operating System nor The Design and Implementation of the 4.4BSD Operating System had second editions. It is too early to see if Design and Implementation of the FreeBSD Operating System will have a second edition. All of these titles were also published by Addison Wesley.

Since I knew when I was writing the Networker's Guide that there could be a number of years before a second edition comes to press, I planned that the book Web site would help to keep the text current. Besides the Errata, this site contains additional technical writings on FreeBSD that represent material for a future second edition should one be written.
